Kristian’s 2013 New Year’s Resolutions

It’s a new year and a new day! With everything changing, the only place to go is onwards and upwards. In Kristian’s words below he resolves to “dream bigger.” Find out what other plans are in store for Kristian in 2013 in his New Year’s Resolutions below!

From the pen of Kristian Bush

Every year I sit and stare at the pile of lyrics at the end of my sofa that remain unfinished. Journals, random bar napkins, hotel notepads from as far away as Italy and as near as the Holiday Inn down the street. Some pieces of paper in that pile were placed there while I was in college, some from high school, others from last week. For fun sometimes whenever Jennifer and I needed inspiration for a song or were just interested in a little bit of lyrical roulette, I would close my eyes, put my hand in, and pull out a sheet and we would write that song. It has given us “One Blue Sky” and “Everyday America.”

I consider the time between Christmas and New Years a kind of cocooning that exists for me to reflect on my year, gather my receipts for the accountant, finally go through my closet and find out what doesn’t fit anymore, and to dig through that basket of songs that are waiting, patiently, like dreams that want to come true but haven’t yet.

It is this moment, every year, that I feel like in my hands the paper and words and ink and scribbles are windows that I can see through. That I can see out there in the distance amazing things. Like shapes coming into focus. Like dreams starting in my periphery and slowly circling, making their way into view. I resolve this year to dream bigger, pull out more dreams from my past and trust them, and put more dreams back in every day from which to pick.

Happy New Year
