J Rome Crowned “Duets” Champion

It’s safe to say Jennifer was a proud stage mama again last night! After weeks of pouring their heart and soul into competing for the “Duets” crown, contestants J Rome and John Glosson did the unthinkable.

Both of Jennifer’s partners made it to the bottom two of the competition, leaving the vote solely in the hands of America. John Glosson and J Rome were more than capable to take home the crowd, but in the end J Rome was led to victory.

Jennifer tweeted to her fans last night, “Thank You America for voting for J Rome and John! I’m so happy you appreciated and voted for their talent! It was a fun night!!! Love!” And a fun night it was!

John Glosson kicked off Jennifer’s time on stage by spinning the Wicked song “For Good” into a blended masterpiece of Jennifer’s country twang and his soothing operatic baritone. Their powerhouse voices aside, this song already packs a punch, but their combined talent stirred deep emotions for the crowd and the judges.

Glosson’s choice of song was moving and it beautifully rivaled his competition, J Rome, who chose to do an upbeat song that gave an optimistic approach to the show’s ending. After finishing DeBarge’s ‘Rhythm of the Night’, J Rome commented that, “the finale is a celebration.” He spoke to the audience saying, “I want to leave America with all I got.”

J Rome’s decision to mix it up yet again was well received by the other judges. Kelly Clarkson oohed and and aahed over his performance gushing, “I love you. You make me so happy.” Although there was no shoe throwing this week, she still made it clear just how intense her feelings are for this singer’s vocals.

John Legend remarked, “It’s crazy — every week you do something different.” In the eyes of America, J Rome’s versatility as a performer was certainly part of the reason this amateur is fast on his way to becoming a professional. Legend even admitted in last week’s episode that he would sign J Rome to a record deal.

Although J Rome has been favored to win from the beginning, he hasn’t let this celebrity mentality overtake his understanding of the compassion and dedication mentor Jennifer has shown him. “I’m crushed”, he said of not singing onstage with her again in the future. “I did not know the friendship or journey in front of me when I met Jennifer Nettles.”

J Rome never take the stage again with Jennifer? “For now — you never know,” she interjected. With his name now firmly attached to the Hollywood Records roster, that may be the farthest thing from the truth.

We are so very proud to announce the outcome of ABC’s first ever “Duets”. Congratulations to Team Jennifer and all of those who participated in making the show such a success! We’re excited to see what J Rome and John Glosson will do with their newfound success and incredible fan base. Just a reminder to never quit dreamin’!
