For Jennifer Nettles, action sports might be a little too much; she spends more than 200 days a year on road as the lead singer of the award-winning country duo Sugarland.
But one activity she loves -- and get this, it's really weird -- is jumping into a rubber ball and being rolled out to surf atop the sellout crowd.
"I love getting into that hamster ball and floating above the fans," said Nettles, whose latest single "Stuck Like Glue" is available on iTunes Tuesday. "You're floating over human hands and it's really a cool feeling, oh, until you can't figure a way to get back to the stage!"
Sugarland lead guitarist Kristian Bush said the giant bubbles are a "tip to the hat to the Flaming Lips," an alternative rock band.
"We saw the band in Italy and we bought two of the bubbles," said Bush, who formed Sugarland with Nettles in 2003. "They are the most fun in the world. We have them in the tour truck. We just need to figure when to bring them out again!"
Bush said unveiling the hamster balls is the rock 'n' roll moment when you "come off the script."
"It's when people in the crowd have a beer in one hand and something in the other and the ball comes rolling out. And all of a sudden all bets are off," Bush said. "They can't put their hands to block, and they are thinking 'Oh, God, don't roll over me!'"
