Atlanta, October 22: Were you there?

Posted on Sat, Oct 22, 2011 at 8:00 PM

We brought the Incredible Machine home tonight to the place where it all started: Philips Arena, where Jennifer and Kristian rehearsed two years ago for everything you've seen on the road since. So it's only appropriate that tonight's hometown show featured plenty of end of tour pranks no one could have planned for.

It started during Sara Bareilles' opening set, with the Sugarband in matching track suits as their new collaboration, "Aurora Bareilles," an a capella group in the style of The Sing Off. They joined Sara for "Love Song," which left her in hysterics and set the stage for some fierce retaliation...

...like Sara's band taking the stage during the "Everyday America" remix, one by one, dressed as the singers of each song we cover: a Cee Lo Green for "Forget You," a Britney Spears in "Baby One More Time," a massively buxom Dolly Parton for "9 to 5," and a Beyonce, complete with jar of jelly, for "Bootylicious." Please bear in mind that Sara's band is comprised entirely of men, so you can imagine the impressive drag show this turned into (see above if you can't) -- capped off by Ms. Bareilles herself taking the stage dressed as Kristian. Her impression was spot-on, right down to the vest and shoes she stole from his wardrobe. Watch it here:

Other highlights: Our crew streaking during "Every Girl." Guitar techs handing out Guitar Hero guitars. Brandon Bush getting a body double, and switching back just in time to have popcorn dumped on his head during "Who Says You Can't Go Home." And then there was the mystery man in tighty-whities and a Darth Vader mask, rockin' on the cowbell. (We'll leave that one solely to your imagination, if that's okay.)

And as if that weren't enough, we adored everything you fans brought to the table: red balloons during "Every Girl Like Me," glowsticks during "Find the Beat Again," LOVE flags for "Stand Up," and so many signs -- including a Little Miss Project Live that covered the entire arena, featuring a rumored 10,000+ messages of love and support.

We wish you all could have been here to share in this incredible night with us, and if you WERE here, we hope you'll post your memories/photos/video in the comments. Tell us about (and show us!) your night. It was a special one for sure. YOU ARE LOVED!

I saw the show twice: once in Atlanta and once in Nashville. You guys need to release a post tour "Live" record full of collaborations/ covers that you did during the tour. They were unbelievable! I looked those up on YouTube that I didn't see live, and I think it would be a quick success. I enjoyed the tour immensely. I can't wait to see you all again.

I drove down from Ohio. Saw you at Blossom Music. Was hoping to see you again, when I saw your last show of the tour was in Atlanta. What a Bleepin' show. Best I've seen so far. Now I know why I'm a Sugarland fan. You need to understand that I'm 58. My favorite band in the world was Loggins and Messina and they have been since the 70's. But after getting into country music in 2009, you guys have risen to the top. The very top. Never have I seen a more energetic band with such an energetic crowd perform. You guys could come out to a dead crowd and within 2 notes(name that tune) bring that crowd to their feet. You made my day. You made my night. You made my trip. LONG LIVE SUGARLAND.

I know I sound like a broken record everytime I post after a concert but it was AMAZING as always and sooooooooo much fun!! So glad I got to be a part of the hometown concert. Drove up from Orlando after that concert & took in all Atlanta had to offer before having an insanely AWESOME night rocking in the pit with you guys. Made some fun new friends while waiting in line outside the Phillips Arena for 4 hours for doors to open :) Jennifer, Kristian and the Sugarland band you are talented, fun, extraordinary people!! You and your music inspire me so much!

I have to admit I am still lauging at all of the fun pranks played that night!! You guys are hilarious! It was my brother's first Sugarland concert and he is now hooked :) Jennifer thank you for reading my poster and attempting to throw me your guitar pick. Wind took it unfortunately and the security guy that grabbed it gave it to the lady in front of me but I was excited you attempted!!! Also thank you Jennifer for reading my brother's "Sugarland Rocks - You should do a duet with Cher" poster....you made his night :) Loved your flippling of the hair impression of Cher as well!!!

Can't wait to see you guys on the road next year!!!!
