It all started out as a normal Wednesday. Checking my e-mails & scanning through the SL fan club boards like always. Little did I know that before I rested my head for the night, a new Sugarland motivated mission would get underway. Following work I stopped by my local grocery store to grab some lunch supplies for the rest of the week. After leaving the checkout counter I headed for the door. I was glancing down at my receipt, and noticed a stunning pair of high heels on a display picture. As I looked up at the object that caught my eye. I was floored to see it was Jennifer & Kristian looking back at me! My beloved dynamic duo on display for the entire community to see. (Great job marketing department) I figured I would come back on the weekend to get a photo opportunity along side the display. But the more I thought about it, the more I had to “have” that coveted piece of memorabilia. What a coup it would be to acquire something so unique. (I wanted it like the Red Rider air riffle that Ralphie yearned for in the cult classic “A Christmas Story”) But surely it must have been spoken for already...right? If this was Atlanta or any other Midwest / Southern state, that scenario would be undeniable. But out West in California, I rationalized that my odds must be better. But I needed a game plan to make the dream a reality. I figured an early morning approach when the store was fairly empty would be best. So on Saturday morning with camera in hand I set off on the covert operation. Code Named: “Sweet Treat” lol. I arrived at 7:00am sharp. First I had to find someone to take my picture with the display. VIOLA! I spotted my mark in the parking lot walking toward the entrance. An older lady that was getting ready to start her shift at the store. Surely she would understand my Sugarland obsession & oblige me by taking the picture. “Maam, would you mind taking a picture of me with this display” I asked... Sure, she replied. “That’s a cute picture” she added. After a short coaching on how to focus the camera...CLICK it was done. Thank you very much for your time I gushed. Now was the moment of truth...would it be possible to put dibbs on the display itself? I asked her what the store did with displays after they were finished with them? She really didn’t know but pointed me in the direction of the head honcho, ”John, the store manager”. With a smile on my face & big butt pucker I introduced myself. Pointing toward Jennifer & Kristian I posed the same question to John. “Usually we just throw them away afterwards” he responded. “Would it be possible to for me to have it when your done with the promotion” I asked. The wheels turned in his head as he pondered my unusual request. Slowly we walked over to the display & he proceeded to read the fine print on the bottom of the picture. Without saying a word, he reached out grabbed the display & handed it to me! “Are you kidding” I asked. “No...it’s yours” he replied. Shocked at what had just transpired. I said thank you very much and gleefully floated out he door with the prize before he changed his mind. I had just pulled off what I thought was a real longshot. But all was not rosy yet. The rain was starting to fall and how in the world was I going to be ale to get this into my car! Luckily the display was in three separate pieces. So with a little coaxing & folding I shoe horned it in and happily proceeded home with the loot! “The fan club members aren’t going to believe this one I muttered”. Wait until they get a load of this!
